The turbulent fluid mechanics group, Experimental Research Branch, Wright Research and Development Center, welcomes you to use their experimental data of isothermal confined swirling flow in a dump combustor. First of all, you need to know that these data were collected using a Two Component LDV System; therefore, the data were collected in the horizontal and the vertical planes to get the 3-components information of the velocity field. Secondly, you need to know the data were non-dimensionalized and were stored on two floppy disk files. File #1 has most of the data you may need (i.e. X1/H, Y1/H, non-dimensional stream function1 , U1/Uref , V/Uref , W/Uref , K/U2ref , u'1/Uref , v'/Uref , w'/Uref , 100 uv/U2ref and 100 uw/U2ref). On the other hand, file #2 has additional data you may not require (i.e., X2/H , Y2/H , non-dimensional stream functions2 , U2/Uref , 100 Su1 , 100 Sv , 100 Sw , 100 u2v/U3ref , 100 uv2/U3ref , 100 u2w/U3ref and 100 uw2/U3ref). Please note that subscript "1" means measurements in the horizontal plane while subscript "2" means measurements in the vertical plane, and most of the symbols are standard. "S" denotes skewness and Su denotes skewness of "u". All the data are time averaged. The details of the rig, flow conditions and nomenclature used were reported earlier in any of the following papers: 1. Nejad, A. S., Favaloro, S. C., Vanka, S. P., Samimy, M., and Langenfeld, C., "Application of Laser Velocimetry for Characterization of Confined Swirling Flow." Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, Vol. III, 1989, pp. 36-45. 2. S., Ahmed, S. A., Miller, T., and Vanka, S. P., "An Experimental and Computational Investigation of Isothermal Swirling Flow in an Axisymmetric Dump Combustor," AIAA Paper No. 89-0620, 1989. The data is in ASCII Format and were generated using "Enable" software. The data should be easily readable using any software which handles ASCII files. We hope that all the information you need is included, and the data are presented in a useful format for you. We welcome your comments to improve the presentation of our data or putting it in a different format. If you do have any comments, we welcome them as well. Please do not hesitate to call any of us if you have any questions. With our best regards. AHMED/NEJAD/BORAY Experimental Research Branch Wright-Patterson AFB OH 45433-6563 513-255-9991
