---++ CFD Workshop on Test Cases, Databases & BPG for Nuclear Power Plants Applications. *The University of Manchester* *School of MACE, George Begg Building*, Room *B8* {{For more information, or to attend at the Workshop please contact [[StefanoRolfo][Stefano Rolfo]]}} *Wednesday 16 July 2008, 10:30 - 17:15* ( [[DlsPostIts][Travel information & maps]]) ---++++ Objectives Responding to increasingly pressing demands from industry and government for _" error bars"_ to be placed around CFD results and also better training of the new generation of _"black-box"_ CFD practitioners, several uncorrelated initiatives have attempted to produce __Best Practice Guidelines__ (BPG) and Knowledge/Data Bases. While on the one hand these might be criticized for being incomplete, partial, unsubstantiated and obsolete checklists, on the other hand scientific publications tend to focus focus on successes of new modelling approaches in very specific situations and hardly ever report failures/limitations in wider ranges of applications. One-off funded EU/Gov or industrial projects on validation activities have also lead to great but rapidly obsolescent websites, further funding is getting even harder to secure for CFD and turbulence modeling, now perceived as an old/mature technology. Voluntary (unfunded) academic benchmarking activities such as ERCOFTAC SIG 15 on advanced turbulence models have been ongoing for 2 decades but with increasing specialization, attendance has reduced to scarcely more than a dozen aficionados. The current situation is admittedly unsatisfactory, and the proposed meeting will be *"a workshop about CFD workshops"* in the KNOO framework, with an overview of existing material and groupings and plenty of time for discussions on how we could coordinate actions more efficiently and keep data/knowledge-bases alive and updated. This workshop is part of the [[%ATTACHURL%/Annual_meeting__2008_agenda.xls][KNOO Annual Consortium Meeting]] hosted by the University of Manchester Thursday 17 and Friday 18 July 2008. The workshop will be preceded by [[KnooTraining][a training day on CFD Open Source Code]] hosted by the School of MACE *Tuesday 15 July 2008*. %INCLUDE{Main.KnooWorkshopAgenda}% ---+ Participants list [[KnooWorkshopParticipant][Here]] is available the list of the participants at the workshop and at the [[KnooTraining][Code_Saturne training day]] .
